Swim Morning

Michael became a swimmer while in Gran Canaria.

Upon his return to Eppstein he asked when we could go to the swimming pool next, preferably the one with the waves. So, today we went to the Rhein-Main-Therme in Hofheim. He swam beautifully in the roundabout with water jets that push you around; Patrick took running leaps off the diving board, and Nick was pummeled by the waterfall that's supposed to work as a shoulder massage.

But becoming a swimmer did not mean Michael wanted to go down the water slides.

Nick and Patrick were telling me I shouldn't mollycoddle him, but should force him down the water slide. Come, come, Michael, it's really fun, I tried. No budging. Nick, Patrick, and I went down the slides. It really is so nice and not scary at all. I knew it's one of those things you have an irrational fear about, but once you do it once, it's not so bad, maybe even fun, and you feel kind of relieved that you no longer have that fear of the unknown. So I allowed Nick and Patrick to take Michael by the shoulders and drag him up the stairs to the slide. Michael was close to tears and looked as though he was being taken to the block. When we got to the top, Nick and Pat pushed Michael down firmly, and I held him as we went down the slide. He loved it!

We only stopped sliding when it was time to go.
