In exile

We'd been told for weeks that the heritage-protected wooden windows in our building would need to be fixed. Still, I figured I'd be able to use my office and just have to put up with some noise and dust. Ha! I hadn't reckoned with Qualitätsarbeit "made in Germany."

A student needed me to write her a recommendation. She sent me her CV and other documents. Yesterday I thought I'd go to my office and print out the documents before meeting her at 11. Nichts da!

Everything looked hermetically sealed! Each bookshelf and piece of furniture had been carefully covered in plastic and taped. So precisely. Wow. I had to take photos. All that work, so the craftsmen could replace the window hinges, too weak to support the heavy wooden windows having been doubled glazed when the university took over the building ten years ago.

If you look carefully, you'll even see they laid down a felt mat, also meticulously taped, under the windows, and a brown paper runner between the windows and my door!

Obviously, I have to work from home until they are finished!
