Michael is a "Messdiener"

For six weeks in August and September, Michael walked down to our local church for instruction on how to be a server. The children got to hold "flambeaux" and practice ringing bells big and small. They even learned about the secret passageway from the church to the parish house.

Last Sunday our new priest from Africa inducted the four new servers. Michael performed his duties very solemnly as one of two in charge of bringing the water and wine and then of ringing the bells while kneeling after "Sanctus." His partner Sophia told her sister how glad she was that she was paired with Michael because "he knows what he is doing!"

They were also presented with "Messdiener" T-shirts, a certificate, and an ID card that says they can serve other churches. Afterwards we all went to our favorite Thai restaurant in Wiesbaden, which Michael had been wanting to do for a while.
