Christmas tree project
The Story of our Christmas Tree
I had some trees thinned out in the yard this fall, but thought the top of one might work as a Christmas tree. On December 23, Nick sawed, Patrick pointed it in the right direction, "Uncle Mark" supervised, and I videotaped the felling; of course I did it upside down, but that's another story.
The tree was, um, a bit sparse in parts, so Mark, Nick, and Patrick, cut off branches, drilled holes, and put branches where they would look better. Mark referred to it as something of a "Frankentree." In any case, it had a bit of cosmetic surgery and was quite the crafts project on a large scale.
Nick wished for us to use ALL our Christmas ornaments this year, rather than the matching balls, so Michael, Aaron, and Kate enjoyed unpacking the boxes and hanging up football players, ice hockey players, angels, trolley cars, tennis players, and the usual orange, gold, and red glass ornaments. Patrick made a video.
In the end, the tree looked perfect in my eyes--a tree with character, adding magic to the gifts below. Now that Christmas is over, it continues to fill the home with its pine scent, the way Oma's spruce branches always did in Woodside.
